Hi! I’m Molly Shapiro, also known as the Preppy Hostess. On my blog, I share my passion for cooking and entertaining with other young adults.
Being a hostess is all about entertaining my guests, not only with conversation and décor, but also with the food itself. I only serve dishes that I know will really ‘wow’ my friends and leave a lasting impression. So when I saw a bacon and coffee vinaigrette on BREWSTICKSRecipes.com, I knew I had to try it.
Coffee in a salad dressing? Who would have thought? The bacon and the coffee really add depth and complexity to your typical salad.
Here’s how to make it.
You’ll need these ingredients:
- 6½ oz bacon, diced
- 2 oz olive oil
- ¾ oz shallots, minced
- 1 tsp garlic, minced
- 2 tsp brown sugar
- 1 ½ oz sherry vinegar
- 1 French Roast BREWSTICKS packet
Start by dicing 6 oz of bacon, and cooking it in a pan over low heat. When the bacon is nice and crispy, use a slotted spoon to scoop out the bacon and set aside.
Use the fat to cook minced shallot and minced garlic. Pour this mixture in a bowl, and mix in olive oil, brown sugar and sherry vinegar. You can mix the diced bacon in too.
Now, the vinaigrette gets its coffee flavoring from BREWSTICKS coffee. It’s a liquid concentrate, so it’s perfect for recipes like this.
Pour in one French Roast BREWSTICKS packet. Then stir until all of the ingredients are mixed together. Now pour the vinaigrette over your favorite hearty greens. I’m using spinach here. Toss your greens and now it’s ready to serve!
The delightfully unexpected taste of coffee blends perfectly with the richness of bacon and brightness of vinegar. If you are entertaining, this vinaigrette is sure to be a conversation piece!
