Hambela farm is located in the fertile state of Oromia in the Guji zone, between the districts of Gedeb and Hambela, 75 kilometers above Yirgacheffe. It covers 200 hectares and includes a washing station, dry mill, drying beds, a large warehouse and guest bungalows.

The farm is run, and the coffee is processed, by METAD, a third-generation, family-owned business that strives to provide transparency in all aspects of its business and to be ethically, environmentally and socially responsible. (It’s worth a visit to the METAD site just for the photo of Muluemebet Emiru, the matriarch of family who started it all, after being awarded farmland for her service after World War II; she was Africa’s first woman pilot.)
